CONSTRUCTION STRATEGIES
A critical concern of the Housing Authority that we took very seriously as we developed the design
for this project was the increasingly prohibitive expense of ongoing maintenance to their properties
and units. Not only has the expense of conventional construction become a huge hurtle making it
more and more difficult for the Housing Authority to fulfill on their mission, but the considerable cost to
maintain their properties is also playing an ever increasing role in their ability to fulfill on their mission.
How can we deliver a product that is less expensive to build AND less expensive to maintain over time? How do we create a product that by its very nature is not only a response, but also a solution, to this very real concern of the client?
The approach we took is to dissected the project into its basic materiality, and task each material component with providing a portion of the solution to this concern. The sum of the parts that make up the design, constructability and materiality of this project not only address, but provide viable, workable solutions that will significantly reducing the ongoing operating costs of these buildings.
